Appearance
Devon takes strongly after her mother, a Lady of the House Windsor known for their beauty and artistic skill. She is the same height at five foot five, and shares her mother's slender frame and elegant bone structure. The colour of her hair and eyes comes from her father's family, the Marshall's, though - rich dark brown, and navy blue. She is pretty and elegant, with large eyes that give her an innocent, naive appearance. Her skin tone is a warm peach. Devon is a skilled seamstress, having had tutoring with skilled artisans most of her life, and she makes most of her own clothes. Like any noblewoman of the royal court, she wears beautiful, intricate, formal attire most of the time.
Personality
Raised in the tradition of noble houses at her father's country estate, Devon is everything a young noble should be. Elegant, graceful, kind, caring, artistic, accomplished, she has lead a charmed life and has the easygoing, charming personality to prove it. She is still young and can be idealistic and naive at times, but she has had an extensive private education and has enough confidence to hold her own at court, in the conversations of noblemen and warriors, politicians and diplomats. She loves children and animals and is outspoken in her defense of the downtrodden and less fortunate, though she can be snobbish and vain as a reflection of her upbringing. She has never known hardship and has little true understanding of the lives of most Litharians. Devon is outgoing, bubbly, fun-loving and adventurous, and has a genuine love for life.
History
Devon is the third and youngest Marshall child and was raised her whole life at her father's country estate, Norwood, going with her parents and two older brothers to Court in the city each winter since she was five years old. Marquess Orwell Marshall is a second cousin to Queen Dowager Anmaree, giving Devon a somewhat distant but direct connection to King Thrasius. The Marshalls are an old and wealthy family in the highest circle of the King's court, and have ties with the royal family going back centuries. Norwood is a large estate directly abutting the Forest of the Fae at its eastern border, making it a strategically and defensively vital estate. Lord Orwell maintains a standing army of eighty men and is an accomplished Warrior in his own right. His eldest son, Samuel, is to inherit his title and lands.
As a youngest child and daughter, Devon's primary role within her family was always to strengthen or form an alliance with another important family through her marriage. To that end, Devon has been recently engaged to the Captain of the Royal Guard, a man named Lucius Aldarion. The station of Captain is below only Commander of the Royal Guard, a role held currently by Lucius' father Simeon but which Lucius is expected to take upon Simeon's retirement. Furthermore, it is of direct and primary importance to the Royal family, with Lucius and Simeon acting as the primary war strategists for the entire Human realm. Lucius is also set to inherit Simeon's Earldom and lands, an estate called Pemberly, making him titled in his own right.
Lucius is much older than her, in his early forties, and has been married before to a woman called Marion who was convicted of treason due to her ties with the Fae, and executed. Marion and Lucius have a daughter, Mira, who is two years older than Devon, however she fled after her mother's execution and has not been seen since. She has never met Devon, and it is not known whether she is even alive now. For the Marshall family, Devon's engagement to Lucius gives them a connection to a man vital to the King in a position of strategic and practical importance. This is a valuable addition to their familial ties with the Royal family. As part of the arrangements, Reese has also been given a position squiring directly under Lucius, which will earn him a knighthood in time - an excellent position for the second son of a Lord. For the Aldarion's, Devon's familial ties to the Queen Dowager strengthen their own family's position at Court. Additionally, Lucius is a famously detached, difficult man who is not naturally charming at Court, and a well-bred, popular young noblewoman may elevate his reputation within their social circles. Finally, of course, Lucius currently lacks a male heir, and a young wife from a good family is likely to give him the best chance of producing one.
Since her recent engagement - arranged without Devon's participation or even knowledge - she has moved permanently to the City. Currently she lives with her ladies in waiting and staff at her family's city apartments, for the purpose of adjusting to living away from Norwood and attending events and activities with her betrothed prior to the wedding. She is to be married in the spring, at which point she is expected to move into Lucius' quarters within the Ice Castle.
Important NPCs
Lucius Aldarion
Captain of the Royal Guard, and engaged to Devon since the summer. Lucius is cold, introverted, emotionally distant. He has never forgiven his first wife for her betrayal, and for his estrangement from his only daughter, and is uncertain about his feelings towards Devon. He would not have married again if not for his father expecting and arranging it, and for the lack of a son to continue his family name. A workaholic, and very good at his job, Lucius is highly organised, devoted to the Crown, and one of the best war strategists in the kingdom. He has a fractious, strained relationship with his domineering father. Whether he and Devon will form any kind of emotional attachment or if their marriage will be one of utility only remains to be seen, but Devon still harbours fantasies of one day loving the man she marries.
Reese Marshall
Devon's 19 year old brother. Pledged to the Royal army, he squires for Devon's future husband Lucius. Devon and Reese moved to the city permanently together. Currently, Reese lives in the barracks during the week and with Devon in their city apartments on weekends. Reese is caring, jovial and fun-loving. He can be cheeky, and is a flirt, although he has old-fashioned ideas of romance and love. He is loyal to family and the Crown, and he and Devon share a good relationship, with Reese often acting as her escort and guide within the City.
Lola, Aylee and Greer and Mary
Devon's ladies in waiting. All four are lifelong friends, and all from lesser noble houses. All are also part of the Royal court, in a lower circle than Devon. They live with her in her City home currently.
