Personality:
Raven is a bundle of stress and anxiety. She gets overly stressed about almost anything and is a very tense person that will jump at the slightest scare. Always on the move, she tends to fidget with things a lot, never liking to stay completely still unless it involves getting food. Part of her avian and daemon nature is to be a trickster, and she loves to mess and manipulate people, sometimes in twisted and demented ways.
She is quite vain and admires her own beauty, flaunting it and using it as a way to manipulate and tease people. On an individual scale, Raven trusts only her brother and sister. Her trust is hard to earn, thus she tends to compulsively lie a lot. Some of her biggest fears include being in small spaces where she can’t spread out her wings, so she prefers to stay out under the sky during the night, and hidden in shade during the day. She also works hard to keep her wings out of harms way so they are not permanently damaged.
Normally with no intention, she can be very violent with her movements, tricks, and deception. While she’s not very strong past the natural strength that daemons have, Raven makes up for it in intelligence. She’s very strategic.
History:
There was a reason Raven was given the name that she was. She was born as a human in the City to a high-class, rich home and had one older brother and a younger sister. Her family consisted of avian shamans, all with corvid influences. While her brother had an affinity for jays, Raven’s younger sister had one for magpies and Raven’s was…well, Ravens. Her parents were not very creative with names, thus they named her older brother Jay, her younger sister Maggie, and herself Raven.
Even from a young age, she was a trickster. As a toddler, Raven got into all sorts of trouble. She would steal goodies from her parents’ kitchen and mess with the staff in the estate. Between her other siblings, they would constantly do something bad and try to pin the blame on another sibling or one of the servants in the house.
There was never any pressure on Raven to take control of the family’s name since she was the middle child, but there were still expectations of her to act like a dignified lady and get married at a young age. At fifteen, she had an arranged marriage with another avian shaman. Her forced marriage greatly upset her and she refused to marry the stranger. Her parents were infuriated and, in their rage, beat her. Hearing her cries, her siblings came to her aid and stood up for her. Beaten and broken, there was no sympathy or merci from her parents and they claimed that she either had to marry her fiancé, or get out and be disowned.
Raven never listened to her parents’ orders without fighting back in some way, but this time she did not get away with her actions. Still refusing to do as her parents wished, Raven was disowned from the family at just sixteen.
Spoiled and never learning how to live on her own, Raven struggled out on the streets. She tried to stay around the high-class area in the city, but the Hounds would not have it. Then she tried to stay in the middle-class areas and found that a little easier. Every now and then she’d sneak off into the high-class area to visit her brother and sister. Any time she needed company, Raven would use her magic to befriend the local crows and, even though she could not understand them or actually communicate with them, would speak to them as if they were her friends.
On the her first night of a cold winter by herself, Raven was dying of hypothermia. She had not prepped for winter since she figured it couldn’t be that hard to survive. Her grave mistake had nearly cost her her life, had it not been for a daemon lady named Tas.
Tas was an avian daemon herself with an eagle influence. She was in the city delivering spices and herbs she had gathered when she found the little girl freezing to death behind a house. Tas upheld one of the daemon’s codes above all else, and that was to protect any and all children for they were their future and sacred. Though Raven was human, the daemon woman still had sympathy, for she could not understand how humans cared for their offspring so little. Without giving her a choice, Tas took Raven to her small hovel of a home in the more poor and poverty stricken areas of the City.
She warmed the human child by the fire and, without asking, changed her into a daemon out of her own selfish desire to take care of a child. When Raven woke, her hair had changed color and had feathers growing throughout it. There were great big wings on her back, but her affinity was not for ravens any longer. It had changed to an osprey’s.
When she changed, Raven had been shocked at first, but also ecstatic. The first thing she did was try to fly, and in the attempt hopelessly fell on her face. Her first instinct was to find her brother and sister and tell them what had happened to her.
Raven found her siblings and they were so worried for her. They thought her dead and were a little uneasy about her new transformation. As long as she was alive and well though, they were happy for her. Her brother Jay vowed that when he took over the household, he would invite her back in.
That never happened. Once he got the household, he forgot all about Raven. Her sister, Maggie, was married off to some other man with a boring title and had kids, forgetting all about Raven as well.
Though she never held it against them, and though she was very sad that over time her family forgot about her, Raven felt Tas was the only family she had ever needed. The daemon woman was kind and moved around a lot, bringing Raven along. She was her teacher and mother, and she helped Raven learn how to survive on her own and defend herself.
Long past when her original family and siblings died from old age, Raven decided it was time to do her own thing. Every now and then she’d return to Tas to visit, but she had left on her own.
