"Afraid to lose control
And caught up in this world
I've wasted time, I've wasted breath
I think I've thought myself to death"
And caught up in this world
I've wasted time, I've wasted breath
I think I've thought myself to death"
Appearance:
General Features: Derrek is exactly six foot with a stout and heavily-built body, due to his many years being in the Royal Army. While his body may be covered with muscles, it is also full of scars from simple tasks, such as training. Other small scars, the more large ones, are mostly from actual physical confrontations, whether it be from a simple fist fight or sword fight. One of the most notable scars, which is from neither, is on the palm of his right hand. It is jagged and brown, since it was from a recent accident, and reaches from the base of his thumb to his pinky.
He is quite the handsome man, even being at an older age. Derrek's jaw is square while his chin is a bit more angular. His nose is crooked and just a little hooked, from the countless times that he has broken it. At times he may come off as intimidating, maybe even brutish at first glance. It's quite easy to know when he is angered, since Derrek automatically clenches his jaw and grinds his teeth together. He rarely is seen in his human form anymore.
With skin tone, he's got lightly tanned olive skin, which adds to his handsome appearance. As said before, it is far from flawless.
Hair: This warrior much prefers short hair over long any day. In fact, he can't stand it if it's more than a few inches at max. So his dark brown hair is normally kept short, the very end of it along the back of his neck, reaching no farther than his mandible. It is not particularly 'nice' hair, but is more average being between thin and thick as well as wavy.
The most facial hair that Derrek ever gets is a stubble that goes from ear to ear and all around his mouth. Other than occasionally having that stubble, he is normally clean-shaven.
Eyes: While his eyes may be the basic almond shape, they are naturally slightly squinted. They are actually a very pretty hazel though and seem to mildly change colors, depending on the lighting. He is very good as keeping his emotions in-tact, but there are bits and pieces of him that can be seen by studying his eyes.
Clothing: Once he used to wear heavy armor, when he was a hound and a human. But now that he is a shifter, Derrek tends to rarely ever wear armor since he was no real control over his shifting. Derrek does not want to ruin the armor, so he tends to wear cheaply made tunics and trousers, in case he shifts and tears his clothing.
Weapons: There is one main weapon Derrek uses, and that is his steel gladius sword. It is the one and only sword that he thoroughly enjoys training with and fighting with. Since it is actually a short sword, he wields a shield as well. He lost his heater-shaped shield, which he was more used to using. Now Derrek uses a magical shield, gifted to him by Cyril, that has the ability to block any magical attack and weapon that strikes it. It is also able to make either the person that summoned the magical ability, or the weapon that stroked it loose its magical power for up to ten seconds. The shield is long and heavy with a wreath design. He uses the shields more as weapons than just a defense tools.Image
Though he still uses the shield in his half form, Derrek currently relies more on the natural weapons and abilities of his half form, as well as the sheer strength of his true form. He does not own the gladius sword anymore and threw it away a long time ago.
True Form: Derrek shifts into a fully grown Noble Dragon. He is about forty-two feet in height and fourty-nine in length. Around his head are two large spiraled horns and spikes with attatched membranes along the jaw line. Derrek is covered in light-copper and tan scales that gleam almost like silver in moonlight. Like most noble dragons, he also has spines with membrane attachments all along his spine, leading up to an arrow shaped tail. His legs are very thick and a little stocky while his body is broad, built for endurance and strength.
Half Form: Derrek's half-form has a humanoid shape, but has more traits of a dragon. He grows about four feet in height while his shoulders and waist become more broad to be proportionate. His first are changed toa digitgrade form, such as his knees are bent backwards and heel raised higher. There is also a large tail that reaches just a few inches off the ground. It is not arrow shapped like his true form however.
Unlike his toes, Derrek still has everyone one of his fingers. Each has a claw on the end as well. He has wings too, like in his true form. He can fly short distances due to the sheer strength and power in his wings, but his body mass is too heavy for him to fly more than short distances. Derrek's neck is longer in order to properly hold his head, which is almost exactly the same shape and appearance of his true form. He still has two spiraled horns, the spikes along his jaw lines and spine (connected with membranes), and even the large teeth and tongue of his true form. All of his body is covered in light tan and copper scales, the lightest of it being along the anterior position of his neck, chest, abdomen, and the underside of his tail. Derrek can still breath steam in this form and can naturally speak as well.
Pets:
Triphus- Triphus was an older, beautiful gryphon that Derrek had for a few years. The gryphon only liked the company of humans, but still stayed for a while with Derrek even when he turned into a shifter. As he began to loath humanity, Triphus grew tiresome of Derrek and attacked with the intent to kill. In the end, Derrek killed Triphus.
"I was born without this fear
Now only this seems clear
I need to move, I need to fight
I need to lose myself tonight"
Now only this seems clear
I need to move, I need to fight
I need to lose myself tonight"
Personality:
Pre-Shifter; Derrek used to be a very charming, kind, and noble individual. He upheld his high moral standards and cared about many people. He had a sense of loyalty to the humans that could not be matched. It even went so far to where he hated any and all fae, and vowed to kill any that crossed his path. Derrek was also somewhat close minded and loved combat.
Beginning of Shifter Phase; During the time he was coping with being a shifter, and after he left the human military, Derrek became hopelessly depressed. He paid little attention to Matthias, whom he had called a son, and was so focused on his self-moping. At a time, Derrek contemplated suicide as he could no longer serve the human military and felt worthless. Even with the woman Irene and her kids, he could not grow to love himself even with their support.
Now; Derrek is a very different man than he used to be. He has come to complete terms with his transition to a shifter. However, he still holds a grudge against humanity for abandoning him so readily. He still loathes fae as well, but no longer has a vow to kill any that he sees. He turned from a noble and kind man, to a cruel and aggressive one. He finds himself snappish and angry a lot, and has little respect for others. Derrek cares only for himself at this point and spends almost all of his time in either his true form, or half form. He's a lot more violent and less prone to showing mercy for others. Derrek especially comes off as stand-offish and tries to keep to himself.
"I think with my heart and I move with my head
I open my mouth and it's something I've read
I stood at this door before, I'm told
But a part of me knows that I'm growing too old"
I open my mouth and it's something I've read
I stood at this door before, I'm told
But a part of me knows that I'm growing too old"
History:
Derrek was born in a noble's family with two older brothers and one younger sister. He had a basic childhood with good parents who seemed to always pay more attention to their work than their own children. He was taught to read, write, and was originally supposed to inherit the Cyrus family business (which was trade), but he had no interest in it. Since he was not the first born son, Derrek had to volunteer to join the Royal army.
At first it was hard for him since he knew nothing about fighting, but he gradually became better. Eventually he flew up the ranks until he reached Captain. Derrek of course made sure to stay in contact with his family and let them know how he was doing.
Recently: Nothing much changed in his life. Not until he met Matthias.
The half-dragon boy actually changed his life a good deal. Derrek believed he was a slave and very much so wanted to help him. So he offered Matthias a place to stay and ended up spending much of his free time training and teaching the half-dragon boy. During that process, he grew a bit of an animal hoarding problem and bought a horse and a dog for Mathy.
A few months later, the two climbed the cliffs. During that time, Derrek met the noble gryphon that is a close companion to present day, Triphus. If it was not for the gryphon, the warrior would have fallen to his death while trying to quickly attempt climbing back down the cliffs. As he was falling, Derrek reached to grab a rock, slicing the palm of his hand open (which is how he gained the scar on his right hand). After that, the warrior decided that the cliffs was not the right place for him and grew a fear of climbing.
Another accident occurred another few weeks later, and Derrek was bitten by a Noble Dragon shifter while patrolling around the City of Thieves. He spoke with Prince Thrasius and was discharged from the Royal Army, giving up Neptune as well since the horse was bred for war.
Since he had no idea what it was he would shift into, Derrek decided to leave the City for a bit with Matthias, reluctant to leave his old life and the woman he grew to partially care for (Irene). But even so, he left and spent his time in the Savanna, hoping to learn how to control his shifting. Matthias would come and go, and sometimes Derrek was glad for the alone time. But, most of that time, he was worried about the boy's whereabouts.
After he managed to confront Matthias about his worries, the ex-hound ran into Rosalind, a friend of Matthias that he had meet a few months before he was bitten. Rosalind helped him greatly with keeping control of his shifting, and after months of practicing he finally had it down. He could once again enter the City again. But during those months Derrek had not heard from Matthias, not once.
He grew depressed, to the point where he did not care whether he lived or died. It took him a good while, but the shifter was able to find himself for a brief moment and realized that he needed help. Derrek went to Irene, the woman that he had some strong feelings towards, for help and has been staying at her estate. This entire time, he worried about Matthias and planned on searching for him the minute his mental health was stable.
He never did grow stable and never did end up looking for Matthias. In fact for a long time, he assumed the boy was dead. Months went by, and Derrek was able to get much better as mastering how to shift. He spent less and less time as a human, and more times as a dragon. It had an influence on him, as he became more aggressive and bitter. Derrek began to change so much that even Irene and her children, who he had changed into dragon shifters, left him and went their separate ways.
Roleplay Sample:
What a perfect day it was. The sun was shining and the birds were singing. What really made the day peaceful though was the fact that Derrek was free to do whatever he wished. But what exactly did he wish to do? Usually he would either go drink or gamble a bit, but today he wanted to do something different. Something he had not done for quite a while.
The warrior placed his right foot in the iron stirrup and hauled himself onto the back of his warhorse, Neptune. The strong brown and blonde horse shifted slightly from the sudden weight that was placed on his back, but other than that he stayed still.
"Common boy, let's see whatchya got." Derrek leaned forward, clicked his tongue, and gently squeezed the side of the horse. Instantly Neptune took off, galloping at full speed with the wind.
