Abilities:
Air Bubble- Thorn can manifest the wind to form small “bubbles” or pockets of air than can hold things.
Appearance:
Face; Thorn has a heart shaped face where its strongly tapered towards his somewhat pointy chin. His forehead is a prominent feature on his face and he’s somewhat self-conscious about it. He has a small, cute nose where the bridge is slightly curved inward. It compliments his face quite well. When he is exposed to sun for long periods of time, small freckles dot the areas under his eyes and across his nose.
Body; Frail is the best way to describe Thorn. He has very little muscle on him and is fairly small, only standing at five foot one. His features tend to make him appear very young, almost childish in appearance. Body shape wise, he could be described as thin and lean without much muscle. His shoulders are a little broad. He can seem very anxious with the way he holds himself and interacts with people. With being a fairy, he also has two white, butterfly-like wings that are transparent and whispey/almost cloud like.
Complexion; Out of all his family members, Akir has the most beautiful, smooth, and delicate skin. It is dazzling, moonlight white and adds to the soft features of his face, body, and childish appearance. It burns easily when exposed to pure sunlight for too long.
Hair; Thorn does not do very much with his hair. Parts of it are very long, and he tends to tie it back into a ponytail. His hair is very thin, so the ponytails tend to be small despite the amount of hair tied back. His bands are choppy and cut in ways so they don’t get in his way, generally sitting just above his eyes and swayed to the side. To complement his skin, his hair is ash white with dark roots.
Eyes; His eyes are down turned and colored a bright grey with a blue outlining
Clothes; Thorn may wear scholarly robes made from silk for formal occasions. He tends to prefer wearing very little, as it feels more natural and is easier to move through thick brush with. Most of the time he only wears loin clothes that may reach down to his knees. If he has to wear fabric, he prefers the soft silks that the fae love to wear. Even in the winter, Thorn refuses to wear anything from animals.
Gear; He has no idea how to use any weapons, so he does not own any besides small carving and cutting knives. They are only used for doing things like making fires, or cutting off a branch that may have snagged onto his clothes. Thorn detests violence and therefore does not perform any. Thorn does keep a lot of gear with him however; He uses a pony named Zo to help carry all of his empty blank journals and scrolls, as well as the few he keeps on him that are filled.
Jewelry; The only jewelry Thorn wears are two sets of silver, cuff earrings at the top of each ear.
Companions:
Shin- Shin is a very large Mutated Red Tailed Shark (see journal for details) that is around ten feet in length. His body is a light black, along with his darker black eyes. His tail is a radiant, bright red and is translucent. His pectoral and pelvic fins are “lobed”, which means they contain bones that act like feet. Thus he is able to move around on land, similar to lung fish. He can survive out of water for up to 48 hours. Thorn likes to use his air bubble ability to make the fish seem like it is floating in its own little bowl of water. Shin then likes to “swim” in the air. Personality wise, he is quite playful and likes to nibble at things, as his mouth is on the bottom of his head. He uses his small whiskers to sense things. Often he is either swimming around Thorn or crawling on the ground nearby.
Personality:
Stats:
Explorative; Thorn’s work and love is to explore anywhere and everywhere in Litharia in order to discover new species of fauna. He travels far and wide to fill his journals so that he can add the information to the fae’s collection of scrolls, books, and information. There is almost nowhere he is not willing to risk to go, including places notorious for dangerous creatures and even dangerous habitats.
Fearless; Both a fault and a strength, Thorn has no fear. He does not fear fearsome creatures such as manticores, dragons, gryphons, and so forth. Nor is he afraid of deadly snakes, bugs, or even plants really. He is a little shy of people, but has little fear with social interaction beyond that. Perhaps the only thing he fears is violence from other people, especially humans and their anti-fae laws in The City.
Kind; There is not very much he can do that he excels at, but Thorn is always willing to give a hand where it is needed and loves to help people and fauna. From the smallest mouse to the biggest, scariest shifter, Thorn does not limit his kindness to just a few types of people. Even to those that are overly violent or bad, he tries to do his part and show them kindness, though he disagrees with their form of life.
Invasive; Thorn has very little concept of personal space with people. He will openly hug, kiss on the cheek, or just mess with or examine everyone he meets. He forgets that most people do not want their personal space invaded, so he is constantly having to be reminded of it.
Workaholic; Another strength and fault, Thorn will work overnight and forget to sleep while searching or studying fauna. He loves his work so much, he sometimes forgets to eat. This explains partly why he can come off as very thin, sometimes unhealthily so.
Ecstatic; Thorn has so much energy, he can hardly contain it most of the time. This adds to why he invades others’ personal space. Sometimes he tries to expend all his excitement and energy by playing with Shin.
History:
Thorn was born after his father had died from a terrible disease. He was told that his father was keeper of the scrolls and had worked himself to death. His mother detested him and nicknamed him Thorn, because she felt as if he was a thorn in her side. He was the youngest out of his twelve siblings, 7 sisters and 5 brothers. His mother had very little to do with him, and as such he was raised by a few of his siblings, the main one being his sister Annabeth who was two-hundred years old at the time. She was his mother figure.
Though most of his family seemed to detest him purely because his mother did, this did not stop Thorn from being such a happy child. In the Mound, even as a toddler, he had so much energy, Annabeth had no idea how to expel it. She decided to take Thorn with her to her work one day. She was the apprentice of the Keeper of the Beasts, and she introduced Thorn to all the fae’s animal companions. This was when his love of fauna first started.
From a young age, he wanted to learn all he could about the animals and what it took to be a keeper of beasts. That was his first dream. He would constantly go with his sister and she, as well as the Keeper of Beasts himself, would teach him all that they knew. Thorn knew everything there was to know about their mounts and friends, but he wanted to know more. So he started to reach out and read books and scrolls about fauna in the Forest of the Fae.
There was so much information, it took him years to even make a dent in the library. Thorn stopped going with his sister to her beast training. He wanted to deal with more than just the nice animals within the Mound. He wanted to see great, fearsome beasts.
Just a teenager, Thorn set out into the Forest of the Fae to search for a specific type of dragon. He had met a young fae woman who had one of them imprinted on her, and he just had to see one in the wild. He looked and looked but, as a novice with no idea how to actually hunt down animals, could not find one of the elusive creatures. Instead, when he stopped at a lake for a rest, he found a creature no one had recorded before. It was a very large fish, about ten feet long, with a sleek black body and a bright red tail. The only thing was, it was walking on land! It was fascinating. Without second though, Thorn approached the fish and fed it some of his food. The fish happily ate it and, unintentionally, imprinted on Thorn. He knew this because as he walked away, the fish followed after. Thus was when he met Shin, whom he named because the fish’s body stood at up till the top of his shins. Using his magic, he decided to bring the fish with him.
When he returned to the mound, he was ecstatic and showed his family the fish. Most just scoffed at him and ignored him, but Annabeth smiled and encouraged him. Thorn had asked himself; What other creatures were out there, never before seen or recorded? He had to find them! But first, he would have to learn how to do so.
He asked Annabeth if she could bring him to her teacher, the Keeper of Beasts, and she did. Thorn asked the man if he would teach Thorn how to track down animals and avoid detection, and he hesitantly agreed. For more than a decade, he studied with his sister and the Keeper of Beasts again, but for different reasons than Annabeth. He did not actually set out to find new fauna till he was one-hundred and eight.
Nothing has stopped Thorn from finding new fauna, not even his near death experiences. Since he left the Mount, he has only ever returned for the occasional visit to his family and sister. Most of the time, even to the present day, he has been relentlessly been searching and recording new fauna, as well as spreading knowledge to other people outside of the Mound.
