Name: Belladonna Crane
Nickname(s): Bella
Played by: Lia-m
Age: 673, born to Litharia under 1 year ago
Date of Birth: May 9th
Sexuality: Homosexual
Lumen: Flare (light magic)
Loyalty: Undeclared
Status/Occupation: Unemployed (shadow world; scavenger)
Abilities:
(0 posts)
Glow: Ability to absorb light and use it to make her skin emit it instead. The more time Bella has spent in sunlight, or the more light she has absorbed the longer her own light will last.
Appearance:
Bella is tall for her breed and tall for shadows over all at 5'9” and that's not counting the great, pure white elk antlers that sweep back over head. Those alone adds an extra foot and a half and makes the standard doorway a hassle to navigate. Despite the enormity of her antlers the rest of her is very curvy and feminine. Her hips are broad, her thighs are thick, there's a little pudge over her abs, she's got an impressively full chest, muscular arms, and there's a cherubic roundness to her face.
Her skin is a warm shade of sun-kissed brown dotted with even darker freckles across her face and shoulders. Due to her physical properties as a shadow her freckles glow white in night as well. Her eyes are large on her face, almost matching a fae's which makes their hot pink color even more striking, even more still because pupils are a luminous white while what should be the whites of her eyes are a deep black. Matching her unnatural color palette, Bella has sky blue hair she keeps micro braided and tied back in a ponytail, though even pulled up it falls down to the small of her back.
Bella's face is as round and soft as the rest of her. She has a cute nose, dramatic eyelashes, kissable lips, and a gap in her front teeth that makes her whistler when she laughs. But her beauty is somewhat lessened by a huge scar running from the left corner of her mouth to just below her ear. It's an ugly shade of dark red and her skin along it looks warped like a giant fish-hook ripped her face open and it never healed right. She has a similar scar running down her stomach from just bellow her her ribs down to her groin that looks alarmingly like she was, at some point, gutted. Although given how conservatively she dresses few are very likely to ever see it.
For the most part Bella dresses in human-made clothes, skirts and tunics under leather armor that seems appropriate for a drifter in such a war-torn continent.
As shadows exist in a single state Bella is locked looking like a woman in her mid-thirties.
Personality:
In the shadow world Bella has lived a long time. She's a brilliant light of a personality with a good dash of confidence in her abilities. She's a good companion to have with a natural inclination to help those in need and an uncanny ability to feel comfortable just about anywhere. The Shadow World is an ugly place, a place that tends to make people worse than they were before. Which is why Bella has always put everything she has into staying good. Into unflinchingly holding her ideals and refusing to let her fear dictate her actions. If she is destroyed then so be it, but she will die knowing that she was a person who she loved being.
It's not like that disappears when she's in Litharia. It's just that she doesn't remember what she's been through. In Litharia she's not a woman who's been forced to her limits and pushed past them both in wits and strength. She doesn't know what she's capable of anymore and thus has little confidence in what she can actually do. She's still naturally drawn to people down on their luck and those suffering, but she no longer knows how to help them especially since so many of the people she meets in Litharia are naturally repulsed by shadows.
Like all shadows Bella lost something when she came to Litharia. In her case she is missing her ability to sing, something she considers her greatest talent in her home world. This is one of the few things she can remember about who she actually is, and it does feel like a great part of her is missing. It's not that she's lost her rhythm or just needs to retrain her voice. When Bella opens her mouth to sing simply nothing comes out. She can speak, whisper, and scream all she wants but even so much as humming a tune makes no sound.
History:
Things in the Shadow World aren't born so much as they come together. Bella is fairly certain she was at one point several different shadows that became one after they were all mostly destroyed because the first thing she can remember is being cut out of a monster and falling into the arms of a woman who was confused as to why there was no trace of her recently devoured 'brother' and friends. She questioned Bella about who she was but when no answers were forthcoming the woman grew disgusted and ran after the monster that had since raised itself to its hooves and staggered further into the ruined city, bleeding tar from wounds that matched the scars on Bella's own body.
And then Bella was alone.
And then she was alone for a very, very long time.
She found an old high rise apartment and stayed there for a while, finding clothes in the ruined closets and books on thousands of shelves. She could read, she found. One of those she had been stitched out of must have known how, Bella thought.
She was alone, but she didn't have to be.
So she read the books she found. Starting at the top floor she broke into each apartment and collected all the books before finding a place to sit and going through everything. She read stories, textbooks explaining theories she didn't understand until the tenth read through, she read about the philosophy and laws and dreams of a dead world for years, never growing tired of her quest. She called herself lots of things as she read, usually picking the name of her favorite character form a novel then changing it again when she found another character she liked that she changed it again. It wasn't until she reached the eighth floor fup that she found the diary.
It was red leather, and on the inside cover it said 'Property of Belladonna Crane'.
There was one entry, halfway through the book. The page had water marks from tears cried centuries ago and the text was glittery blue and loopy.
'I don't want to die.
This isn't fair.'
She didn't know why but this meant everything to Bella. More than anything she had read before two simple, short sentences burned into her and became the core of who she was and who she wanted to be. Because it wasn't fair. Th woman chasing the dead people she loved, that wasn't fair. All the long gone people who had lived in the building she had stayed in for over two hundred years – that wasn't fair either. And she didn't want to die.
That was the only book Bella took with her when she finally left the building, stuck in the back pocket of her stolen jeans.
She didn't find anyone in her city, and none in the first few cities she walked to and through. But when she did find someone it was three monster hunters. They weren't interested in her, didn't even give her their names but they did give her a knife, a gun with three bullets, and directions to a hidden group of five shadows hiding in the mountain caves just east off the highway. Bella thanked them before they left and she went to find the group that would eventually become her family.
Ellouise, a shadow that looked twenty but was older than a of them – so old that her antlers had grown into the walls of the cave and it was nearly a part of her. Gloss, a woman who looked eighty but was a decent guard. Charlie Sleeps, a blue haired monster slayer. Pan, a stumpy legged boy who repaired tools and his 'brother', Palo-Rose José who made bullets. They claimed to be brothers since they both looked ten, and grew snippy when anyone pointed out that biology didn't actually exist anymore.
They were good people, and in need of a scavenger who could venture from city to city before returning home. And that was something that Bella was good at. Traveling and being alone but with a place to return to was nice and that was how she lived for nearly three hundred years. Every day it seemed she fell more in love with her family and she began to make a point of finding other shadows, collecting those that needed help and being kind to those who declined it.
It was while scavenging that she walked through a rift and into Litharia.
One second she was walking through a ruined city, gun in hand and then the next she was stumbling naked through a great savanna. She could remember her name, and she could remember that she had been looking for supplies but she couldn't remember who they were for.
It's been little more than a month since she landed in Litharia and Bella still has no idea what she's doing.
