Items, Weapons and Pets
Hat: The defining attire of a pirate, Harlequin's battered top hat is a piece of great historical and sentimental significance to him.
Skull Pendant: The gruesome, shrunken skull of the first man Harlequin killed has been threaded onto a chain along with the teeth of various sea creatures. This type of treasure is not uncommon amongst pirates and is a second highly sentimental piece for Harlequin.
Appearance
Features: Very sharp, thin and angular. High cheekbones, thin straight nose. Androgynous to feminine-leaning. Long, pointed furred ears in half-form.
Eyes: Lilac.
Hair: Black, often worn in dramatic styles. Unstyled it is long, falling just past his shoulders.
Complexion: Pale. Greyer and tattooed beneath the eyes in half-form.
Body Type: Very thin, five foot seven. Elegant and delicate in build. Large bat wings, taller than himself, in half-form, cannot be utilised for flight.
Attire: Harlequin still owns the clothing he wore at sea; typical sailing gear, with a dramatic flair for individuality. However, having put his captaincy on hiatus, he now favours more tailored, elegant, and less battered clothing. He is fond of dramatic fitted jackets, jewellery, high boots, and usually wears very fitted clothing.
Personality
Harlequin has always been the life of the party. He is outgoing, vivacious, charming and inclined to hedonism. A social butterfly who likes to connect with others as much as possible, he is also whip-smart and streetwise, with an easy wit and sense of humour. He loathes boredom and loneliness, seeking almost obsessively to surround himself with noise, colour and fun. Energetic to the point of being frenetic, he is easily agitated, very restless, and never seems to rest. Harlequin can be volatile at times and is ruthless when angered; he will kill without regret or remorse if provoked. However, he has a strong preference for fun over violence and rarely, if ever, starts the fight. Harlequin has a great, great many friends, connections and acquaintances - he knows someone in every town and is never without a place to stay or event to attend - but he is also mischievous and deeply untrustworthy. No matter how much he likes someone and enjoys there company he can never quite be relied on not to take advantage of them if the opportunity arises.
History
Harlequin is the erstwhile Captain of the fearsome pirate ship The Grey Lady, a silver two-masted schooner with a reputation for rich plunder and ruthless crew. He filled this role for decades, spending only short periods of time on shore during the winter months. For a very long time Harlequin's ship and crew were the core and heart of his life, and he genuinely loved it. When ashore he passed the time and made a living cheating at cards, but always the sea called him back come spring.
It was nothing momentous that made Harlequin leave this life. Just a slowly building desire for change, a passing thought of some other existence that grew over a few years into a burning, irresistible desire. The Grey Lady was handed over to Harlequin's second mate and closest confidante, Crow, and remains in his capable hands to this day. Harlequin still in the back of his mind considers himself the captain of his beloved ship, and knows if he ever wanted to take the position back it would be his without question. But, for now at least, the sea's siren call stays silent.
Harlequin took his developing talent for cards and gambling, and has turned it into a new and diverse career. If he can trick, taunt, mislead, lie, steal, slight, misdirect or talk his way into some coin, he will. This involves anything from cards to elaborate ruses to theft to scams. It takes a quick mind and a quicker tongue to stay out of prison or dead in a ditch somewhere, but Harlequin likes the challenge. And, he's good at it. It's an easier life than pirating, though not without risk, and takes him all over Litharia.
