Set felt extremely lucky to have a friend like Kez. She had never judged him for his addictions and completely understood why he did what he did. Most others treated him like garbage, even if his Heprinsal addiction was not nearly as bad as it used to be. Now he only used the drug to keep himself from dying due to withdrawal, but regardless he was always cast a disapproving glance, usually with disgust. Sometimes, Set thought, that he did not deserve someone like Kez. But she was the only friend he had, and he was selfish enough to have the desire to keep that. Though he did not realize that the occasional feeling he had was due to the young, light-hearted crush he had on her, he was nothing but content to have her as his closest friend for as long as he, or she, could live out on their own. People like them tended to not live long, especially like him. Kez though…she was strong. Much stronger than him. She’d be able to live a long life.
Even the shifter could tell that the dragon was not fond of this plan, but again, Set was too selfish to not take the opportunity to spend time with Kez. He was fully prepared, like the dragon, to catch Kez if for some bizarre reason she fell. It was hardly a long fall, but it could cause some damage. He was fully aware that she could do this herself, but it was merely a precaution. If Kez had jumped first, he’d have wanted her to be ready for a potential fall with him as well.
The tall shifter in his rather intense half-form looked down at Kez and nodded. It was hard to talk in this form due to his canine muzzle, but it was do-able. “Hell yeah. No trees for you to climb in the Savanna?” Set never left the city. The last time he went out was so long ago, he had almost no recollection of what the area surrounding The City was like.
Idle chatter with their job, though, was potentially deadly. For the moment it was fine. It was hardly uncommon to see shifters out and about at night, generally assumed to be slaves. But once they got closer to the market, almost all chatter that did not pertain to his assignment would have to wait. If any hound grew suspicious of him, Set would most likely have to call off the heist, and thus deal with the wrath of his mentor. Set was not fond of doing an obligatory “sparing” match with his mentor, which mostly involved Set getting the shit beat out of him since he had no idea how to fight.
“Alright, let’s head down towards the shop. We’ll want to take a somewhat indirect route. I know the hound’s routes, as well as how to get around most of them. We might run into a few though. If that’s the case, you might have to take up the ‘I’m your slave’ explanation.” Even if Kez hardly looked like a rich woman, it was not entirely unheard of for more poor humans to still own shifters. After all, most humans saw them as being worth than less than dirt.
